Jug was packed in a sturdy crate and carefully transported back to workshop in Co Down with associated paperwork signed off

Condition

Generic dust and engrained dirt
Metal collar present at base of jug, corroded, and holding a major crack , running throughout the jug, with fractured running cracks along this major crack.
Presence of previous repair on rim edge, excessive water based adhesive used, now cross linked and yellow.
Missing spout, breakedge very dirty.
Scratched lead glaze throughout, engrained with dirt. Staining pulled into the cracks.
Chipped areas on the base

Treatment

Conversation w Curator before treatment, to confirm the removal of metal collar, for both aesthetic and stabilising reasons
Swab clean, then steam clean
Soak in de-ionised solution, further steam cleaning required
Remove previous restoration
Application of laponite RD poultice to draw further staining from the body, 4 treatments required. Through rinsing required after each treatment.
Hydrogen peroxide was used as a final attempt to remove any remaining staining. Decided to leave jug as presently viewed, further treatments could have been detrimental to the integrity of the picee.
Rinsed and allowed to dry thoroughly
Consolidate breakedges, 10% Paraloid B72
Rebond with 50:50 B72
Modelled new spout in wax, made silicon mould, cast in dental plaster.
Bonded new spout, filled and began retouching
Fill chippy areas of further breakedges
Retouch as original

Extensive staining from corroded base ring and use. Staining removed using poultices
Missing spout, remodelled in wax relief and cast in plaster
Minimal retouching as per the original.
