Condition
The figures had varying degrees of loss and disfigurement. Given their soft porous clay body type, they required cleaning, consolidation and stabilisation, before deciding with the curator, what level of filling and retouching was required in order to redisplay the group again at The Argory.
A Collection of terracotta figures representing costumes occupations and religious sects of Indian society, c. 1850 . Its believed the group were brought back by members of the MacGeough Bond family following a trip abroad. These figures, designed as souvenirs, are reminders of the relationships which developed between India and the West based largely on trade, and resonate with India's colonial history.
